Frisco Depot Artist Village

The Frisco Depot Artist Village is still in its formative stages.

The purpose of this project is to create a unique economic incentive package to make it advantageous for arts district compatible businesses and artists to relocate their businesses and galleries to The Downtown Peculiar Arts and Culture District.

The plan is to use the portions of our old railroad bed that are still owned by the City by placing railroad cars or railroad car replicas that can be converted into retail spaces. A complete economic incentive package including small business training is part of this initiative.

Please check our website periodically to check our progress. If you would prefer to be on a mailing list to keep you abreast of the progress of this project, please contact us with your name, the type of business you are interested in placing in the Village and your email address.

First Annual "Picture Peculiar" photo scavenger event.

This event will be a very informal and fun event to let others see Downtown through your lens. You can use your Nikon with super close up lens or your camera phone or your pink Barbie camera - it's up to you. You will be given a list with nouns or adjective and you go forth into the boundaries of Downtown to take the picture to go with the word. Photos will be posted on our website with credit to the participating photographers. No prizes but exposure for your work and a great day in a great place. More to come very soon!

First Annual Run/Walk for the Art Walk -- EVENT COMPLETE

One of DPACD's goals is to create a public art walk throughout Downtown. Great strides have already been made in a short time. While brainstorming on a way to fund the addition of at least one piece per year, Holly and JT (come to our meetings - you'll meet this creative people) came up with the idea to host a 5M (hey, it's Peculiar, we'll do a 5 mile rather than a 5 kilometer) run/walk to raise money for our PDA - public display of artfection. Dates and forms coming soon.

Broadway Outdoor Gallery

The Broadway Outdoor Gallery will be a series of four (4) 16' long, reinforced fence structures located on one of the two most heavily traveled streets in the Downtown (Peculiar) area. These structures will act as an outdoor gallery space for up to 20 visual, public art pieces. Size restrictions for the pieces will be no taller than 5' and no wider than 4' (nearly the same size as a sheet of plywood). The installation will be two sided so it can be viewed from both the street and the sidewalk. As participating artists are encouraged to sell their works, the individual pieces will constantly change to provide ongoing interest in the exhibit. Paintings, poetry and low profile mosaic, sculpture and ceramic panels will be accepted. The Art Walk is just one of the numerous components geared toward the revitalization of the Downtown core as a kinetic, diverse and accessible arts district. We work closely with the community, the City of Peculiar and the local school district as well as the greater Kansas City arts community in all of our efforts. We are intentionally situating this piece of our overall plan on the heavily traveled route to the elementary school for the purposes of multi-generational art education and appreciation opportunities.
